When ground screws may not be suitable

A responsible foundation decision includes knowing when the ground, structure or site may point to a different approach.

LIMITS / ALTERNATIVES
When Ground Screws May Not Be Suitable

Ground and obstruction limits

  • Very shallow rock or hard obstructions may prevent the required penetration.
  • Deep uncontrolled fill, voids or highly variable made ground may need investigation or another solution.
  • Buried services, foundations or debris can make positions unsafe or impractical.

Structure and geometry limits

Loads, uplift, lateral requirements, connection geometry, tolerances or the structural form may sit outside an appropriate screw solution or require specialist engineering.

Site and project limits

Installation equipment still needs a safe route and working area. Regulatory, warranty, fire, durability, drainage or client specification requirements may also shape the foundation choice.

If verification cannot provide enough confidence, an alternative designed foundation may be the better decision.

RESPONSIBLE USE

A decision not to use ground screws can be the correct technical outcome. Early, accurate project information makes that decision easier.
